Name Change
Since college and my mom’s passing, l’ve gone by my birth name, Caleb Holland. Still a vestigial surname remained which too often caused confusion.
Today, I’m grateful to have completed a lengthy legal process and court hearing certifying my name as Caleb Holland. Lovely judge and ceremonial process, will remember forever.

Documenting My Grandparents
As a documentarian, I believe it’s essential to preserve one’s own history and background.
Wrapped a ~2 year in-depth archival process/project with a (2) day docu-style production with my grandparents, in July.
I was intentional about reconnecting in a close way post-COVID, and worked diligently with them on capturing their stories and archiving troves of family history.
Grateful for the experience & learnings. Not sure what, if anything, I’ll do with what we captured. But grateful for the peace of mind that this history is stored and forever accessible for myself & future generations.

Organizing a Lifetime of Family Memories
As a lifelong documentarian, I recognized the importance of documenting my own history in recent years. By 19 both my birth parents were deceased, and for years everything I retained from my childhood remained in storage. In the wake of the pandemic I also realized the urgency to reconnect and capture my grandparents’ story.
In two-years (with 6 months of intense focus), I’ve completed:
I. Digitization of all photos, VHS tapes, and DVDs. Including over 20,000 individual images, and dozens of hours of footage.
II. Scanning of physical/archival items: objects, scrapbooks, mementos, newspapers.
III. 2-day, 3-cam sit-down professionally captured interview with my grandparents.
IV. Video and Audio conversations and interviews with grandparents, reviewing photo albums, tapes, and archival materials and photos with thorough reflections/descriptions.
V. Creative and documentary capture with grandparents, including: site visits of significance, holiday and daily life coverage, super8 and 35mm film footage and photography, and more.
VI. Organization, sorting/securing, and documenting all personal storage items.
VII. Exploration of AI photo enhancement and other tools for future-proofing and enriching archive.

Have never cried this hard. Watching a master of her craft claim a moment so completely, enriched an already powerful and timeless story. When I first began my pursuit of storytelling as a career, as a teenager, shows like Glee inspired me to believe in a creative future - no matter where I came from. The story of Fanny Brice revealed the power of self-creation and manifestation. Watching Lea pursue greatness in real and fictional life is celebration worthy. The clear and obvious hunger to perform with perfection was undeniable and admirable in the highest degree.
